What’s a Rolfing Session Like?

  • Allow 90 minutes for each session.

  • You will dress down to underwear (its best to wear a sports bra rather than one with underwire and clasps; briefs are better than loose boxers or shorts).

  • I will observe you standing, walking and doing a variety of basic movements in order to understand your patterns of movement and dynamic alignment  This assessment happens at the beginning and end of each session.

  • Rolfing work is a dynamic touch therapy.  At different times, you will be asked to lay down on a treatment table, sit on a bench or do some movement exercises while lying, sitting or standing.

  • Clients are encouraged to ask questions and to talk with me about their experience while the touch work is taking place.

  • At the end of a Rolfing session, it is often recommended to schedule some free time for self-care.  For some this may be a leisurely walk or a nap to let the session integrate. I will offer movement suggestions for you to work with until our next session.

  • Each Rolfing session is delivered in the context of a Rolfing series.  Dr. Ida P. Rolf developed a 10-session series that is a holistic touch therapy addressing the whole body systematically. Learn more about the ‘ 10 Series ‘
